Saflink Appoints Trevor Neilson as Co-Chairman and Expands His Role at the Company
Neilson To Take Active Role in Bringing Saflink Products to Market and Bolstering Key Strategic Partnerships
BELLEVUE, WA – ( November 14, 2005 ) – Saflink ® Corporation (NASDAQ: SFLK ), a leading provider of biometric and smart card security solutions, today announced the appointment of Trevor Neilson to Co-Chairman. Richard Kiphart, the Company’s previous Chairman, was appointed Co-Chairman and Lead Independent Director. Mr. Neilson currently serves as Executive Director of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC), a coalition of 200 international companies, from over 50 countries, who have interests related to global health, biotechnology, life sciences, and corporate social responsibility. The GBC was initially funded by Bill Gates, George Soros and Ted Turner. Under Neilson’s leadership the GBC implements a complex set of international programs related to business investment in emerging markets, product development , marketing, government relations and international diplomacy. Neilson has recruited over 100 major corporations to support the GBC.
Mr. Neilson previously served as Director of Public Affairs for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, Mr. Neilson managed government affairs, public policy and communications for the foundation dealing extensively with members of Congress and the White House. Neilson also managed strategic relationships with Microsoft, the United Nations and other organizations. Following his work as Director of Public Affairs, Neilson became Director of Special Projects where he managed politically sensitive and high-profile investments.
Neilson also worked directly for Bill and Melinda Gates outside of their foundation, serving as the spokesperson for the Gates family and managing a number of their personal projects and interests.
Prior to his work for the Gates Foundation, Neilson served in the Clinton White House where he was a member of President Clinton’s advance staff. Additionally he worked in corporate marketing and public relations for EvansGroup where he managed client relationships with Boeing, Sony, GTE and other large corporations..
