Saflink Delivers New Functionality for Department of Defense's Common Access Card Program

BELLEVUE, WA - (APRIL 19, 2005) - Saflink® Corporation (NASDAQ: SFLK), a leading provider of biometric and smart card security solutions, today announced the release and shipment of the latest version of its NetSign® CAC smart card middleware for the Department of Defense's Common Access Card (CAC) program. NetSign CAC 5.5 provides new capability in support of the DoD's deployment of next generation 64K smart cards in the upcoming months. The new cards are part of the next phase of the CAC program, a key component of the DoD's overall identity protection and management strategy.

With more than 550,000 licenses deployed at the DoD, the NetSign CAC middleware improves network and desktop security by enabling Common Access Card holders to securely log on to PCs, applications and websites, digitally sign and encrypt email communications, and use other PKI-enabled applications.

"Saflink is committed to supporting the HSPD-12 directive and corresponding FIPS 201 standard for a federal identity verification system," said Jeff Affuso, President of the Public Sector Division of Saflink. "By leveraging our existing smart card, biometric and ID credentialing technology, we are well positioned to meet the needs of our federal customers. We believe the FIPS 201 standard, which mandates common identification credentials, is validation of the market direction we have anticipated and for which we have planned, as evidenced by our diversification into physical access control and smart card solutions that complement our core biometric expertise."

The primary new functionality of NetSign CAC 5.5 is support for the Government Smart Card Interoperability Specification Version 2.1 (GSC-IS 2.1). Compliance with GSC-IS 2.1 is critical for the upcoming deployment of the next generation CACs, as well as for meeting requirements under FIPS 201. NetSign CAC 5.5 also addresses new DoD operational and technology requirements including operating system and email upgrades, remote access and deployment improvements.

Saflinkwill be demonstrating its latest credentialing solutions at two DoD conferences: the DoD Identity Protection and Management Conference in Orlando, FL April 19-20 (booth #206), and the DISA Customer Partnership Conference in Dallas, TX, April 25-27 (booth #808).
