Saflink Awarded Subcontract for U.S. Department of Defense Message System

KIRKLAND, WA – (June 13, 2006) Saflink® Corporation (NASDAQ:SFLK), a leading provider of solutions that verify identity, secure access and increase productivity, today announced that it has been selected as a subcontractor to provide continued support for FORTEZZA® cryptographic libraries and drivers to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) under a sustainment contract for the Defense Message System (DMS). The Saflink subcontract value could be as much as $7.7 million if all nine one-year options are exercised. The value of the entire sustainment contract – awarded to the prime contractor – could reach $750 million if all options are exercised.

Saflink has been a preferred provider of FORTEZZA card readers, software and support for the secure email messaging system since the inception of the DMS contract in 1995. FORTEZZA technology provides cost-effective authentication and privacy for secure communications applications.

"Saflink is pleased to continue delivering this vital support to ensure the integrity of a mission-critical communications infrastructure,” said Joe Havrilla, Saflink Vice President of Embedded Systems. “FORTEZZA technology offers military personnel both domestically and in the field the same level of protection when sending and receiving critical email communications. Successful application of FORTEZZA technology in the DMS program is one of Saflink’s most significant and longstanding contributions to homeland security.”

Created by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for the DoD and related agencies, DMS is a secure application providing email messaging and directory services for military personnel. Operational at more than 270 military installations worldwide, DMS provides messaging services to all DoD users and interfaces with other U.S. government organizations as well as defense contractors.

In addition to the DMS program, Saflink contributes technology, services and expertise to several other U.S. government security programs. Saflink has provided core authentication technology for phase III in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) program, middleware for the DoD Common Access Card (CAC) system, and has spearheaded the FLO Alliance that is marketing a solution for the Registered Traveler program sanctioned by the TSA. In addition, in February 2006, the company announced SureAccess™, an all-weather, smart card, biometric reader that reduces the threat of unauthorized access to critical facilities, such as seaports and airports. SureAccess is the first solution in a family of products designed to meet the strict requirements of the National Institute of Standards and Technologies' (NIST) Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201, also known as Personal Identity Verification (PIV) for federal employees and contractors.
