INFORMATION
Saflink is comitted to testing our products in as many system and network configurations as possible. It is possible that specific environments or hardware/software configurations may conflict with the SAFsolution Client software, and thus prevent the client from executing properly.
In some scenarios, you may receive an "Internal Error" and the client will not allow you to login. This may prevent you from accessing your workstation. Below, you will find instructions on how to recover from such scenarios, as well as how to remove the SAFsolution Client software.
The most common scenarios are outlined below.
-- Client will not load the login prompt (Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination will generate an error or crash):
For Windows 2000 and XP clients, you may first attempt using remote Registry editing by running the Registry Editor from another machine on the network and choosing File\Connect Network Registry...
If you are unable to use remote registry editing for any reason, try booting into 'safe mode' and login as the local administrator for the workstation. Once you do so, follow these steps:
1. Run 'regedit" (Registry Editor) from the command prompt or by going to Start\Run.
2. Browse to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon
3. On the right-hand side of the Registry Editor window, locate GinaDLL. You may modify it by right-clilcking and selecting the Modify option.
4. Change the value data from SAFGINA2.DLL to MSGINA.DLL and click OK to save it.
5. Close the Registry Editor and restart the workstation.
Let the machine boot normally (not into safe mode) and login as the local Administrator once again. You may now proceed to removing the current version of the SAFsolution client by following the steps outlined in the "Removing SAFsolution Client" section below.
-- Client will not load the login prompt (Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination will generate an error or crash), even through 'safe mode':
If you are unable to login, even using safe mode, you may need to boot up using the Repair Console. If you have not installed the Repair tools (not a default during Windows 2000/XP installation), you will need to use your Windows setup CD to boot using Repair Console. Follow these steps:
1. Boot your computer using the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
2. Choose the Repair a Windows 2000 Installation option.
3. Press C on the next screen to choose Recovery Console.
4. Select the appropriate number for the operating system to repair.
5. When prompted, type the local Administrator password.
6. At the command prompt, change to the WINNT\System32 directory (CD \WINNT\System32).
7. Type the following commands in order:
a. REN SAFGINA2.DLL SAFGINA2.BAK
b. COPY MSGINA.DLL SAFGINA2.DLL
Remove the Windows setup CD from the drive and restart your computer. Let the machine boot normally (not into safe mode) and login as the local Administrator once again. You may now proceed to removing the current version of the SAFsolution client by following the steps outlined in the "Removing SAFsolution Client" section below.
