TouchChip BSP prompt displays red X coming back from stand by mode
Description:
This article describes an issue you may run into under Windows 2000 when using the TouchChip BSP and ST Micro fingerprint reader, coming back from standby or hibernation mode.
You may receive a red X and the BSP fails when returning from Stand By or Hibernation modes in Windows 2000.
INFORMATION
This is generally caused by an operating system delay in initializing USB devices. The BSP probes for the device's presence before Windows has been able to initialize it.
RESOLUTION
When this failure occurs, if you try again after a few seconds, you may successfully authenticate using the BSP and hardware.
Installing the latest Windows Service Pack and updates seems to resolve this issue completely in most cases. Go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download the latest service pack and updates for your version of Windows.
