What is the NetSign CAC Installation Checklist?
Solution:
We recommend printing this Installation Checklist and, as each procedure is successfully performed, checking it off the list.
Pre-Installation notes:
* If you install Netscape after NetSign CAC, you must reboot for Netscape to be CAC-enabled.
* Although the NetSign CAC middleware will install successfully without readers/drivers installed first, we recommend that readers/drivers be installed prior to installing NetSign CAC. This will allow the installation process to proceed more smoothly.
* If you a planning on using Netscape with PSM, we recommend that you install Netscape with PSM prior to installing NetSign. There is currently an issue with installing Netscape with PSM after the NetSign CAC middleware is installed.
* If you are using Auto Configure, AutoRegister or any other Auto Feature of Outlook 98/2000/XP, make sure Outlook is set up as your default email program. The procedures must be completed in the order they are listed.
Installation Process:
1. Install PCSC Smart Card Reader/Writer and Drivers.
For information on installing PCSC Smart Card Reader/Writer and Drivers, refer to the instructions given by the manufacturer of the smart card reader you purchased for your system.
2. Configure pre-installation default policies.
(See the section entitled "Configuring Pre-Installation Default Policies - The NetSign.INI File".)
3. Install the new version of the NetSign CAC software
Either locally or using a push install. (See the section entitled "Installing Locally").
4. Change the smart card PIN. (recommended)
For information on changing the smart card PIN, refer to either the NetSign CAC 4.2 OnlineHelp file or the NetSign CAC 4.2 Installation and User's Guide in the section entitled "How to perform Common Tasks".
5. Configure email program
See the section entitled "Configuring Email" in the section entitled "How to perform Common Tasks".
Configure policies. (See the sections entitled "Configuring Policies Locally" and "Configuring Policies Remotely" in the NetSign CAC System Administrator's Guide.
