Upgrading from NetSign CAC v4.2 to v5.5 may cause NsOlExt.dll error

Description:
This article provides a solution for an error with NsOlExt.dll after upgrading NetSign CAC from v4.2 to v5.5

Issue:

Users may see an error when they attempt to use Outlook after NetSign has been upgraded to Version 5.5 from Version 4.2 Build 155. The error dialog indicates the NsOlExt.dll file could not be installed or loaded. Outlook caches extension information outside of the registry in an extend.dat binary file.

This file can be found in various locations based upon the version of Outlook.

[user documents/settings]\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat

or

[user documents/settings]\Local Settings\Application

Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat

Solution:

When upgrading from NetSign CAC Version 4.2 Build 155, users will need to remove the "extend.dat" Outlook cache stored at the locations shown above. Outlook will then rebuild the binary cache and the error will disappear.
