CAC 5.5.128 (SP1) Push Install
NetSign CAC 5.5.128 (SP1)
Push Install instructions for Active Directory, SMS and silent batch
installs
Issue / Problem:
The documentation provided in the NetSign CAC 5.5.128 NetSign CAC
Administrator Guide Version 5.5 Service Pack 1 (
“netsign
cac administrator guide.pdf”) lists the wrong
temp directory to be used for silent install. This results in
the following problems:
- Active Directory Push
using NetSign CAC 5.5.128 fails to push NetSign CAC middleware
- Microsoft SMS Push
using NetSign CAC 5.5.128 fails to push NetSign CAC middleware
- MSI Silent Install
NetSign fails to install NetSign CAC 5.5.128 middleware
The following work around is provided to assist Administrators in
completing these functions.
Summary / Troubleshooting:
The following details
will provide a work around fix for the issue with Active Directory Push
and SMS Push with NetSign CAC 5.5.128.
This workaround should be very straight forward and should allow you to
complete remote installation using Active Directory or SMS push by
following two quick steps as noted in the solution section below.
The installation process using Active Directory (AD) Push and Microsoft
Systems Management Server (SMS) push requires that the
Administrator provides a shared folder with the contents of the NetSign
CAC 5.5.128 CD files (we will refer to this as the <CD
Share> where referenced below).
The Pre Installation Configuration instructions on page 7 - 30 indicate
that after using the NetSign CAC Configuration Wizard (“
nsconfigwizard.exe”)
(<CD Share>\admin\nsconfigwizard.exe) that the
administrator should copy the resulting "netsignconfig.ini" file to the
shared folder in the <CD Share>\windows\temp when the
wizard completes the process.
Solution:
To correct the problems you encountered with AD and SMS Push you will
need to follow these steps to correct and error in the documentation:
1. Create a temp folder on the root level of the installation share
<CD Share>. (e.g. after you copy the contents of the CD
to your server or other hosting system, create a "temp" folder. You
should now have the following folder on your file hosting system
<CD Share>\temp).
2. Copy the "netsignconfig.ini" file that you created (see Chapter 2 -
Pre Installation Configuration as mentioned above to this folder.
Now you are ready to complete the AD Push process.
Note: MSI Silent install will require an administrator to map a drive
to the <CD Share> then copy the netsignconfig.ini file to
users Windows\temp (for Windows XP or WINNT\TEMP for Win 2000) before
running the MSIEXEC.EXE commands from a command prompt using the
switches outlined in the Administrator Guide on page 29.
e.g. Enter the commands in the order listed below.
C:\> msiexec /qn /i Z:\ISScript1050.msi
C:\> msiexec /qn
/i Z:\NetSignConfig.msi
C:\> msiexec /qn
/i Z:\NetSign.msi
